Heute ist ein perfekter Donnerstag.  

Morgen wird ein perfekter Freitag sein.  

Die U4 in Wien ist noch voll im Einsatz.  

Ab Samstag, dem 1. Juli, wird alles anders.  

Es wird keine U4 zwischen Schwedenplatz und Schottenring geben.  

Ab dem 1. August fährt die Ü4 wieder normal. 

Übrigens, zwischen Schwedenplatz und Schottenring sind es nur 5 Minuten Fußweg. 

Ein schöner Spaziergang entlang des Donaukanals.  

Man kann den vorbeifahrenden Schiffen zuschauen.  

Man kann bei McDonalds vorbeischauen. 

Dort kann man gut frühstücken.  

Wien ist eine wunderbare Stadt. 

Es ist immer viel los!

Today is a perfect Thursday.  Tomorrow will be a perfect Friday.  The U4 in Vienna will still be in full service.  As of Saturday the 1st of July things will be different.  There will be no U4 between Schwedenplatz and Shottenring.  The Ü4 will be back to normal on August the first. By the way, it is only a 5 minute walk between Schwedenplatz and Schottenring. A nice walk along the Donaukanal.  You can look at the ships going past.  You can drop in at McDonalds. You can have a nice breakfast.  Vienna's a wonderful city. There is always a lot going on!  Enjoy your summer!

Our Two Sons

We have two sons.  Michael and Stephen.  They are seven years old. They are twins.  Michael and Stephen share an interesting room.  It is full of boys' things.  A football.  Plastic guns for playing cowboys and Indians.  Lego bricks for building castles and forts.  A train set.  Pencils and paper, and more.

Michael and Stephen  have an interesting hobby.  Dead flies, dead worms, and dead beetles.  They keep them in a box under their bunk beds.  Michael's and Stephen's room is a mess and it stinks.

My brother Andrew has a ten year old daughter.  Lucy.  Lucy is the opposite of Stephen and Michael.  Lucy's room is always tidy and clean.  Lucy collects dried wild fowers. 

Lucy is a sweet little girl.  Sometimes a little too sweet!

Unsere zwei Söhne

Wir haben zwei Söhne.  Michael und Stephen.  Sie sind sieben Jahre alt. Sie sind Zwillinge.  Michael und Stephen teilen sich ein interessantes Zimmer.  Es ist voll mit Jungensachen.  Ein Fußball.  Plastikpistolen, um Cowboy und Indianer zu spielen.  Lego-Steine zum Bauen von Burgen und Festungen.  Ein Eisenbahnset.  Bleistifte und Papier und vieles mehr.

Michael und Stephen haben ein interessantes Hobby.  Tote Fliegen, tote Würmer und tote Käfer.  Sie bewahren sie in einer Kiste unter ihren Etagenbetten auf.  Michaels und Stephens Zimmer ist ein einziges Chaos und es stinkt.

Mein Bruder Andrew hat eine zehnjährige Tochter.  Lucy.  Lucy ist das Gegenteil von Stephen und Michael.  Lucys Zimmer ist immer aufgeräumt und sauber.  Lucy sammelt getrocknete Wildblumen. 

Lucy ist ein süßes kleines Mädchen.  Manchmal ein bisschen zu süß!

John's Library

John has a very big library.  He has at least 4000 books.  John has many interests.  John's favourite topic is theology. John has 200 theological books.  Some in Latin, some in English, and some in German.

John enjoys travelling the world.  He has visited many different countries.  John speaks 7 languages fluently. John has many travel books.

But, more than anything else, John enjoys the classics. John has read many books. Everything from Dickens in English to Goethe in German.

John's brother Andrew also has a library. Andrew has 3 books in his library. A gardening book, an atlas, and a Bible. Andrew is clever.  His library is  arranged alphabetically.

John hat eine sehr große Bibliothek.  Er hat mindestens 4000 Bücher.  John hat viele Interessen.  Johns Lieblingsthema ist die Theologie. John hat 200 theologische Bücher.  Einige auf Latein, einige auf Englisch und einige auf Deutsch.

John reist gerne durch die Welt.  Er hat schon viele verschiedene Länder besucht.  John spricht 7 Sprachen fließend. John hat viele Reisebücher.

Aber vor allem mag John die Klassiker. John hat viele Bücher gelesen. Alles von Dickens auf Englisch bis Goethe auf Deutsch.

Johns Bruder Andrew hat auch eine Bibliothek. Andrew hat 3 Bücher in seiner Bibliothek. Ein Buch über Gartenarbeit, einen Atlas und eine Bibel. Andrew ist schlau.  Seine Bibliothek ist alphabetisch geordnet.

Ich habe eine sehr lange Liste.  

3 Liter Milch.  

Etwas Butter.  

Ein Laib Brot.  

Ein paar Kartoffeln.  

Ein Glas Honig.  

Nach dem Mittagessen gehe ich schwimmen. 

Es macht nichts, wenn es regnet. 

Es ist nass im Schwimmbad und nass im Regen.

It's a beautiful day today.  Just right for all the things I have to do.  I must go to the bank.  I need some cash.  Then, I must go to the tabak.  I want to bus this week's edition of the Die Zeit. Die Zeit is a German weekly newspaper.  Going shopping is next on my list.  I always go to Hoffer's. Hoffer's is cheaper than Billa's.  I have a very long list.  3 litres of milk.  Some butter.  A loaf of bread.  Some potatoes.  A jar of honey.  After lunch, I'm going swimming. It doesn't matter if it rains. It's wet in the pool and wet in the rain.  Have a nice day!

My Old Brown Shoes

I have a very old pair of shoes. Brown shoes. Brogues. Oxfords.  I bought them in England in 1982. And, my brogues are still as comfortable and as good as the day that I bought them. But, good shoes need looking after.

I have had them reheeled and resoled at least 25 times.  Regular cleaning and polishing is also important. 

Brogues are expensive in the short term, but, cheap in the long term. 

Looking smart is important.  And, good shoes are very important.

Meine alten braunen Schuhe

Ich habe ein sehr altes Paar Schuhe. Braune Schuhe. Brogues. Oxfords.  Ich habe sie 1982 in England gekauft. Und meine Brogues sind immer noch so bequem und so gut wie an dem Tag, an dem ich sie gekauft habe. Aber gute Schuhe brauchen Pflege.

Ich habe sie mindestens 25 Mal neu besohlen und besohlen lassen.  Regelmäßiges Reinigen und Polieren ist ebenfalls wichtig. 

Brogues sind auf kurze Sicht teuer, aber auf lange Sicht billig. 

Es ist wichtig, gut auszusehen.  Und gute Schuhe sind sehr wichtig.

It's hard  getting started today.  I went to bed very late last night.  I had a full day travelling yesterday.  I was on the go all day long.  From six in the morning until  just after midnight.  I went  to Salzburg.  I went to visit a friend.  A friend from long, long ago.  We had a really nice day.  We spoke about ays that had gone. Old friends.  Common experiences.  Journeys.  Our wives and our children.  Where will our children be in 40 year's time?  Who will they be talking about?  It's hard getting going. And, the weather's not very nice. Where is the summer?

 

Our Wellington Boots

We are a family of seven.   A very big family. And, each of us has at least one pair of  wellingtons.  Our wellington boots are very important.  Our wellingtons live in the corner by the back door. 

My wellingtons are black.  I  have only1 pair.   I use them for gardening.  My wife's wellington boots are green. She has three pairs.  My wife couldn't live without her them. My wife has a horse. 

Having a horse means very much work. Usuall dirty work.  Cleaning out the stables.  Wheeling the old dirty straw to the dung heap.  Wellington boots are essential.  

Our kids need their boots just for fun.  Playing in the puddles.   Walking in the mud.  Building small boots in the river, and, many other things, too.  Kids enjoy dirt.  They couldn't do without their wellingtons.

Unsere Wellington-Stiefel

Wir sind eine siebenköpfige Familie.   Eine sehr große Familie. Und jeder von uns hat mindestens ein Paar Gummistiefel.  Unsere Gummistiefel sind sehr wichtig.  Unsere Gummistiefel stehen in der Ecke neben der Hintertür. 

Meine Gummistiefel sind schwarz.  Ich habe nur 1 Paar.   Ich benutze sie für die Gartenarbeit.  Die Gummistiefel meiner Frau sind grün. Sie hat drei Paar.  Meine Frau kann ohne sie nicht leben. Meine Frau hat ein Pferd. 

Ein Pferd zu haben bedeutet sehr viel Arbeit. Die übliche schmutzige Arbeit.  Die Ställe ausmisten.  Das alte schmutzige Stroh zum Misthaufen bringen.  Gummistiefel sind unerlässlich.  

Unsere Kinder brauchen ihre Stiefel nur zum Spaß.  In den Pfützen spielen.   Spaziergänge im Schlamm.  Kleine Stiefel im Fluss bauen und viele andere Dinge mehr.  Kinder lieben Schmutz.  Sie können nicht auf ihre Gummistiefel verzichten.
